Both Psalms 61 and 143 were David's prayers when he was overwhelmed by his troubles. He cried out to God for help and trusted God's protection and provision. In this blog post, I want to share some insights from these Psalms that can help us when we feel overwhelmed by our challenges.

The word "overwhelmed" in verse 2 of Psalm 61 means to be swamped or covered over, to languish, or to faint. It describes a state of being weak, feeble, or helpless. David felt like he was at the end of the earth, far away from God's presence and power. He felt he had no strength or resources to face his enemies or circumstances.

But David did not give up hope. He knew that God was his Rock, Shelter, and Strong Tower. He knew that God was higher than him, higher than his problems, and higher than his enemies. He knew that God could lift him from his overwhelming situation and place him on a secure and stable foundation. He knew that God would hear his cry and attend to his prayer.

David also knew that God was faithful and loving. He remembered how God had been his refuge in the past. He praised God for his mercy and truth that had always preserved him. He vowed to worship God and sing praises to his name.

When we feel overwhelmed, we can also turn to God and find comfort and strength in Him. We can cry out to Him and trust that He will hear and help us. We should remember His promises and works in our lives and throughout history. We can praise Him for who He is and what He has done for us. We can rest in His presence and enjoy His fellowship.

God is our Rock, our Shelter, and our Strong Tower. He is higher than us, higher than our problems, and higher than our enemies. God can lift us from any overwhelming situation and place us on a secure and stable foundation as He did for David. He will hear our cry and attend to our prayer. He is faithful and loving. He is worthy of our worship and praise.

Are you feeling overwhelmed today? If so, I invite you to pray with me:

Lord, I come to you today feeling overwhelmed by my troubles, situations, and life. I feel weary, inadequate, and helpless. I feel like I am at the end of the earth (or at the end of my rope!), far from your presence and power. I need your help, Lord. Please hear my cry and attend to my prayer. You are the Rock that is higher than I. You are my Refuge and my Strong Tower. Lift me out of this place. Help me remember your promises and your faithfulness in my life. Reveal your mercy and truth to me that will indeed preserve me and enable me to worship you and praise your name instead of focusing on how I'm feeling so overwhelmed. Let me dwell in your presence and enjoy your fellowship. You are faithful and loving. You are worthy of my worship and praise. Thank you for hearing me and helping me today. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

I recommend you listen to the sermon from Sunday, May 14, entitled "Overwhelmed!".
